Maria Höfl-Riesch

Company: German Skiing Association
Title: Olympic Gold Medalist and Skiing World Champion
Twitter: Maria

Maria Höfl-Riesch is one of the most successful ski racing champions in the world. Her balance sheet: three gold medals and one silver medal at the Olympic Winter Games (Vancouver 2010 & Sochi 2014), two World Championship titles (2009 and 2013), four World Championship bronze medals, Overall Winner (season 2010-‐2011), twentyseven World Cup victories. Maria was born on 24 November 1984 in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. She was standing on skis for the first time already as a three-year old, at age five she won her first ski race. Later on, she triumphed at school races, Junior Championships and Junior World Championship races until at age sixteen she turned professional and launched her first World Cup race in 2001. Even after retiring from professional racing in March 2014, Maria is and remains an athlete in body and soul. At the same time, she is a young woman with both feet on the ground who is still deeply bonded with her homeland in Upper Bavaria, with her family, and with her friends, all of whom treasure her profoundly natural personality, as well as her industriousness, her reliability and her honesty. In the end it was due to these characteristics that she acts as a renowned ambassador and representative for a number of companies. The fact that Maria has diverse interests that go well beyond the realm of sports, extending to what happens in the world around her, is proof positive of her social conscience and involvement. In this vein, she utilizes her celebrity status in order to lend new impetus to social and sports projects which are close to her heart. As ambassador for Laureus, she supports the Laureus ‘Sport for Good’ Foundation which sponsors and supports concrete projects for children bearing the onus of social disadvantages. Apart from that, she is deeply engaged with the ‘Franz Beckenbauer Foundation’ which aids disabled and needy people, as well as those who have slipped into dire straits through no fault of their own. Since April 2011 Maria has been married to Marcus Höfl, who in his professional capacity as manager also supervises and handles Franz Beckenbauer as his client. His company headquarters are located in Kitzbühel, where the couple also resides. More informations: www.maria.com.de
