John du Pre Gauntt is the founder of the Media Dojo, a custom research company focused on people engaging with augmented physical and social environments. His latest project is The Augmented City --- a podcast series exploring the intersection of artificial intelligence with urban life & culture. John's analysis of economic and social impacts of digital technology has appeared in The Economist, Financial Times, GigaOm, eMarketer and the World Economic Forum. He has presented academic research at Harvard, Columbia and UC Berkeley. Currently, John is a research fellow in the Department of Communication at the University of Washington. He earned a MSc. with distinction in Information Systems from the London School of Economics. A lifelong martial artist, John holds black belts in karate, judo and traditional Japanese weapons. He competes at an advanced level in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, where he won silver medals at the 2014 Pan American, and 2014 Masters World Jiu-jitsu Championships. He lives in the Seattle/Redmond area.
