Alex Motshwanetsi Mathole, Executive Director and General Counsel for Siemens Southern Africa was born and bred in Atteridgeville, South Africa. Alex completed her undergraduate B.Iuris legal degree with several distinctions in 1993 at the University of the Western Cape before advancing her post graduate LLB studies from 1994 -1996 at the University of the Witwatersrand where she also commenced her LLM studies in 2008. She completed her Certificate in Legal Practice also in 1996, graduating top of the class with 8 distinctions including as certificate by the President of the Law Society for Outstanding Performance. She also holds a General Management certification from the Siemens Global Leadership Excellence Center. Alex joined Siemens in March 2006 and in addition to her strategic executive director role, she leads the legal team with a particular focus on providing commercial and transactional support for the Divisions and Businesses of the Sectors in Energy, Industry, Healthcare and IT. Her scope of responsibility extends to managing efficient cross-business legal support, drawing on expertise in Siemens Legal Corporate or in Siemens Sector organizations, or external legal support as needed for all Siemens subsidiaries and associated companies within Southern Africa. Alex started her legal career as an attorney where she practiced in commercial law, corporate law and litigation for a few years before joining the corporate environment with a UK owned multinational company. In 2009 Alex was nominated for SA Leading Women in Business & Government. She featured in the 2008 & 2009 Little Black Book” which is the Financial Mail’s guide on most influential black decision makers. In 2007 she received the Siemens CEO award for Outstanding Business Support. She also featured in the 2004 “.Leading Women in Business: Magazine” for her role in the private security sector as National Chairperson of the Industry Association. Alex is married and a mother of three.
