Viviane Reding

The incumbent EU Commissioner for Justice, Fundamental Rights and Citizenship has a nearly two decades long history as a journalist, working for the nationally leading newspaper Luxemburger Wort and as a President of the Luxembourg Union of Journalists.

Additionally, the 60-year-old holds a Doctor of Human Sciences from the Sorbonne University in Paris.

Parallel to being part of the media scene, she was a member of the Luxembourg Parliament altogether for ten years, from 1979 until 1989.

After this, she was a member of the European Parliament between 1989 and 1999, followed by a membership of the EU Commission starting in 1999 in the Education and Culture office. After 2004, Reding served within the Information Society and Media section until 2010.

One of her concerns is the Internet regulation.
