Bernd Beetz
As chief executive officer of Coty Inc. since 2001,
Bernd Beetz has transformed the organization to position Coty as a leading
global beauty company. In ten years, under his leadership, Mr. Beetz has amplified
the organization’s presence worldwide through vast industry insight and
international business practices. Driven by an entrepreneurial spirit and
focused on creating a strong, innovative pipeline, Coty has gained an unyielding
position in the fragrance, skin care and color cosmetics categories; the beauty
company now also possesses an unrivaled portfolio of over 40+ notable brands,
which are delivered to consumers in 90 markets worldwide.
Since 2001, under the leadership of Mr. Beetz, Coty
has initiated precise, coordinated launches that have led to double-digit sales
growth and a doubling of profitability. A skillful and gifted marketer, he
revitalized the Coty celebrity fragrance category through expert leadership. He
has also bolstered the Coty brand portfolio through licensing deals with
well-known celebrity, designer and lifestyle brands, such as Jennifer Lopez,
Beyoncé Knowles, Marc Jacobs, Bottega Veneta, Davidoff, Rimmel and Playboy.
Demonstrating a proven track record of successful
acquisitions, Mr. Beetz spearheaded the acquisitions of Dr. Scheller Cosmetics, OPI Products Inc., philosophy, inc. and
TJoy in 2010. The acquisitions were part of his strategy to expand Coty’s
business beyond fragrance and solidify the company’s position in the skin care
and color cosmetics categories. In 2007, Mr. Beetz introduced renowned brands
Sally Hansen, N.Y.C. New York Color and La Cross to Coty’s expanding collection,
through the company’s acquisition of Del Labs. In 2005, Mr. Beetz attained
Unilever’s prestige fragrance business, adding notable brands Calvin Klein,
Vera Wang, Chloé and Cerruti to the company’s distinguished portfolio; additionally,
in 2003, he drove the acquisition of the Kenneth Cole and Marc Jacobs brands.
Inspired by Coty’s impressive growth under the
leadership of Mr. Beetz, in 2008 Harvard University hand-picked the beauty company to be the focus of a case study on Coty’s
evolution entitled, “Bernd Beetz: Creating the New Coty”. The feature highlighted
Coty’s success under Mr. Beetz’s leadership as well as the company’s unique
Faster. Further. Freer. corporate culture, which he created.
Partnering with DKMS in 2006, Mr. Beetz connected Coty
with the world’s largest non-profit bone marrow donor center to support persons
affected by various forms of blood cancer and other related diseases. As DKMS’s
official corporate sponsor, Coty has provided financial support to the charity
and helped to recruit donors around the world through the development of the
Linked Against Leukemia Gala held annually in New York City.
Throughout his career, Mr. Beetz has been honored with numerous awards,
including the Marco Polo Award (2002), the highest honor given by the Chinese government
to a foreign business leader. In 2006, on behalf of the March of Dimes, Vera Wang
presented Mr. Beetz with the Beautiful Apple Award for his dedication and
contributions to the beauty industry. That same year, he received the Man of
the Year award given by Cosmetique Magazine. In 2007, Mr. Beetz was honored
with the Mechtild Harf Award from DKMS in recognition of his contributions to
the fight against leukemia. In 2010, Mr. Beetz was honored by Gabrielle’s Angel
Foundation for Cancer Research for his leadership in the fight against
leukemia. Mr. Beetz serves on the Board of Directors for Big Brothers Big
Sisters Deutschland, DKMS, Labelux and Maidenform.
Prior to joining Coty, Mr. Beetz oversaw the Perfume and
Cosmetics division at LVMH. At LVMH, he led the House of Christian Dior as
President and CEO, where his leadership drove the blockbuster launch of
J’adore, increasing sales by 40 percent and doubling profit.
Prior to LVMH, Mr. Beetz solidified his career in
marketing with an over 20-year tenure at Procter and Gamble. Serving as
Managing Director of P&G’s businesses in Switzerland, Italy, Turkey and Germany,
Mr. Beetz advanced to become European President of Paper and ultimately the European
President of the Health & Beauty brand businesses.
Mr. Beetz is a graduate of the University of Mannheim
in Germany where he studied economics and marketing. A native of Heidelberg,
Germany, Mr. Beetz is fluent in German, English, French, Turkish, Italian and
conversational in Spanish.
