Thomas Demand

Thomas Demand born in Munich, studied at the Kunstakademie in Düsseldorf as well as at Goldsmith's College in London.

For over ten years he has been photographing his own sculptures. Often related to highly charged incidents from recent history, the significance of Demand's subject matter is belied by the ubiquity of its settings. His solo exhibitions include Monika Sprüth Philomene Magers Gallery, London (2008), the Fondazione Prada in Venice (2007), the Serpentine Gallery in London (2006), the Museum of Modern Art in New York (2005), in 2004 he had a retrospective at Kunsthaus Bregenz and represented Germany at the Sao Paulo Biennale. Other recent solo shows include the Lenbachhaus in Munich, the Castello di Rivoli in Turin, the Dundee Contemporary Arts and Louisiana Museum of Modern Art in Denmark. He lives and works in Berlin.
