Joi Ito about Venture Capital
In an recent interview with Handelsblatt's Thomas Knüwer, influential digerati and Creative Commons CEO Joi Ito spoke about the future of venture capital and how the business situation will change investment decisions. Joi Ito´s opinion is that investors are even more focused on serious start-ups with a conservative profile. According to Ito, another trend will be that investors lose their huge power because it's cheaper to found a start-up and in that case founders are more independent from investors. He also thinks that investors no longer earn as much money as in the past. Says Ito: "It seems sufficient to me when the enterprise permanently distributes dividendes."
Ito is an entrepreneur and venture capitalist focused on Internet and technology companies and has founded, among other ventures, PSINet Japan, Digital Garage and Infoseek Japan. In addition, he is the CEO of Creative Commons, a non-profit organization devoted to expanding the range of creative works. In 1997, Time Magazine named him a member of the "Cyber-Elite", and he was selected by the World Economic Forum as one of the "Global Leaders for Tomorrow" in 2001.
