Creative Disruption

Author: Lukas Kubina

The Internet enables dramatic change in the way that businesses can operate - this is what Simon Waldman calls the new "physics of business". Schumpeter stresses that businesses go through 'creative destruction'. He pointed out the importance of 'new men and new companies' in this process - and he deliberately drew the distinction between inventors - who conceive new technology - and entrepreneurs who then exploit them for profit.
In Simon Waldman's new book "Creative Disruption", he sheds light on the small cadre of exceptional entrepreneurs such as Niklas Zennström (Skype), Mark Zuckerberg (Facebook), Jimmy Wales (Wikipedia) Sergey Brin and Larry Page (Google). All of them have changed the game of the industry, defied the old logic, and disrupted the sectors they operate in.
Niklas described the balance between destruction and creation on stage at DLD 2010 at the start of this year. "It's not about what you destroy it's what you create. It's about seizing changes in technology, regulatory changes, and changes in how consumers are behaving, so you can do something much more efficiently - do it in a completely different way" Simon Waldman kindly acknowledges the DLD event as a feast of food for thought. Why?
