Macrowikinomics

#DLD11 - Macrowikinomics - Don Tapscott

Don Tapscott's new book "Macrowikinomics" takes his Innovation-through-Wikification approach to the next level, asking: What is wrong with the world, and how do we fix it?

We need, so Tapscott, to reboot our institutions, like financial services, newspapers, and many others. He takes us through a quick tour through the ways, our institutions are unable to face the kinds of challenge that a global, strongly inter-connected society faces: Universities are losing their monopoly over higher education, newspapers bring us comfort rather than news. "Our systems for global problem-solving are stalled."

So how can we re-shape our institutions? Collaboration! What might networked intelligence look like? Nature can give us some hints, thinks of the coordination and collaboration in a flock of birds, who hunt for food collaboratively and defend the flock collaboratively. Could we connect human minds on a global scale, and share our intelligence? Maybe we could create some consciousness in an organization, and throughout society.

In other words, we need to create some kind of neurological connections between humans to create new perspectives on how to solve the plagues of the world.

And thus, Tapscott's talk ends the first day of DLD11 on a positive note.
