Roby Stancel

As Director of Products at Nanosolar, Roby Stancel is responsible for product requirements and design, in order to make Nanosolar's products and systems as revolutionary as the solar cells that go into them.

Roby has helped create a wide range of new-to-the-world products, from household tools and aircraft interiors to chocolate bars and medical equipment. Previously at IDEO for 12 years, he led large corporate innovation programs and full engineering development for start-ups alike. As part of the global executive team, he founded IDEO GmbH in Germany and was its managing director for five years.

Roby studied Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at TU Munich and Product Design at Stanford University. Among other teaching engagements in the US and Europe, he taught at Stanford's Product Design Program for two years.

He is a frequent commuter between California and Germany and has visited over 50 countries. His numerous patents are in industries as varied as media storage, cars, building construction and food packaging.
