Social Media transform humanitarian work
Author: Lukas Kubina
The Atlantic Community interviewed the former head of Public Relations and Special Projects of the UNHCR, Claudia Gonzalez at DLD 2010. She explains how social media raise awareness and establish communication platforms for those suffering through humanitarian crises. Twitter, YouTube, Google Earth, and other services are allowing the world at large an intimate insight into the life in a refugee camp while simultaneously the refugees can come out of the shadow and speak for themselves.
