Customized Browsers and Data Security

"Browsers are likely to become something like a concierge, a personal secretary, a virtual self."
says Mitchell Baker, leader of the Mozilla Project and this years Aenne-Burda-Prize winner. In an interview with Zeit Online, she is sketching out her vision of data security. "There is an enormous tension about data. On the one hand, we are concerned about our privacy, on the other hand, having data about ourselves is really helpful." As the process of increasing data is inevitable, she evolves her future concept around the question on how to guarantee user-ownership and control over personal data while maximizing browsing quality through customization. Therefore, Mitchell does not intend to delete the data but wants to store and administer it in the browser itself. However, the user should have the opportunity to determine his privacy.
