Tobias Rehberger designing futuristic light-box

Tobias Rehberger designing futuristic light-box

Frankfurt and Berlin based conceptual artist Tobias Rehberger designed a colorful light-box at the cafeteria of the new "Sueddeutscher Verlag" building in Munich which opened this week. His artistic work ranges from space installations and wall paintings to sculptures and furniture designs. At DLD08, Tobias Rehberger created the site specific installation „dldldldldld" - see this picture.

Rehberger_dld.jpgRehberger's works are shaped by strong contrasts which give completely special form to the surrounding area. That is valid particularly for his light-box which ranges over two floors. The multi-color acrylic glass disks cover up artfully the supply unit of the building.

"The light-box is marvelous. It reminds me of a collection of Missoni or Paul Smith", comments a staff member. It also looks a bit like Stanley Kubricks psychedelic play of colors in his masterpiece 2001: A Space Odyssey (picture below).

Star_Gate_2001.jpgHighlight of the light-box is that luminosity depends on the data set in the house: the strength or the weakness of the data traffic determines the intensity of the radiating light.

Contrary to the light-box the furniture of the cafeteria stands in puristic white. The chair Myto of world-famous German industrial designer Konstantin Grcic - who also spoke at the DLD design panel this year - underlines the cool elegance of the interior. Rehberger has finally set an optical course, for example his signature which is printed on the chairs. "At lunch people always see interesting details where the eye can rest and remain," says a cafeteria visitor.
