Dercon: "Made in Munich" at Haus der Kunst
Author:
After stops in New York, Paris and Rotterdam, DLD friend Chris Dercon became successful director of "Haus der Kunst" Munich in 2003. In a recent interview with Sueddeutsche Zeitung he spoke about art as a profession and which direction it takes. According to Dercon, the time of the self-appointed genius is over. Thousands of young artists will move from creative yet poor Berlin to other cities begging for work for a subsistence wage. "Today, the career of an artist is temporally limited. As an artist you have to get on it early, because you can work for seven up to ten years like a tennis player or a model", says Dercon. Read the whole article published in Sueddeutsche Zeitung here.
The current exhibition "Made in Munich" at "Haus der Kunst" started November 21th and shows works from 1968 until today, which were initiated and produced by dedicated Munich galleries. It shows outstanding works by German and international artists like Georg Baselitz, Joseph Beuys, Dan Flavin, Richard Hamilton, Jeff Koons, Hermann Nitsch, Blinky Palermo, Gerhard Richter, Dieter Roth and Andy Warhol.
