Bjarke Ingels winning world architecture award
Author: Desiree Martin
Danish architect and DLD friend Bjarke Ingels recently won the WAF (World Architecture Festival) housing award in Barcelona. The festival celebrates international architecture by awarding the best recent designs in different categories, including Culture, Housing and Sports. The winning project in the Housing category is the Mountain Dwellings by BIG-Bjarke Ingels Group in Copenhagen. It was honoured for its enthusiasm and its strong points like excellent outdoor private spaces or a thrilling car park in the undercroft of the housing block - congrats to Bjarke and his team!
Bjarke Ingels commented on the award: "From the beginning, we have considered the Mountain Dwellings as our first realized example of what we call architectural alchemy. The idea is that by mixing traditional ingredients, like e.g. parking and housing, in a symbiosis an increase in value can be created."
