Gizmodo Gallery: Apple Phone prototype by Hartmut Esslinger

On 4-7 December Gizmodo Gallery in NYC will show a historic selection of gadgets, rarely seen prototypes and artifacts -- among them an ancient Apple "Proto-iPhone". The phone includes a monochrome stylus touchscreen and was worked on by frog Design founder and DLD speaker Hartmut Esslinger and Apple CEO Steve Jobs in 1983 as part of the Snow White design language applied to the IIc and the original Mac.

Esslinger is the closest to what you would call a legend in the realm of product design. Almost four decades ago, he founded his own design agency -- later been renamed into frog Design -- starting some kind of revolution with his unique emotional and cultural style. The look of the Apple Macintosh, Sony's Trinitron and the Lufthansa brand were all born in his studios. "Money buys, but emotion sells," is the credo by which Esslinger has been working.
