Kids get mobile by Minivan Donation
Author: Christiane Blana
Thanks to the donations of the DLD-community and the support of Mercedes-Benz the kids of Lichtblick Hasenbergl in Munich get mobile: The contributions gathered in 2008 have been used to purchase a minivan. On 30th June at Munich's Mercedes-Benz branch office Johanna Hofmeir and "her" kids inaugurated their brandnew car. Which meant: One bright red Viano and many little drivers.
„I'll drive around the world," says nine-year-old David looking out of the front shield with his head slightly reaching over the steering-wheel. The sound of music fills the car, the back offers enough space for the other Hasenbergl-kids which have come to Munich's Mercedes-Benz branch office to inaugurate their new minivan.
With the donation of a Viano CDI 2.2 the DLD-community and Mercedes-Benz support "Lichtblick Hasenbergl" and fullfil one of the initiative's great desires. "To us it's like a massive shot of vitamins," says founder Johanna Hofmeir. The bright red van is equipped with a navigation system, a trailer tow hitch and a luggage rack. It is supposed to make the groups of Lichtblick Hasenbergl more flexible and daily life easier. "Including highest safety standards of course," explains Ulrich Kowalewski, head of Mercedes-Benz branch office Munich.
"Kids are our future," states Steffi Czerny, together with Marcel Reichart founder of the DLD-conference. "I'm stunned by the generosity the DLD-Community has shown again to support us improving the future of these kids."
DLD guests and partners as well as Burda Digital Systems have supported the initiative for three years. Lichtblick Hasenbergl focuses on socially disadvantaged kids and wants to improve their conditions of living. Together with her team, founder Johanna Hofmeir offers about 80 six to 16-year-old children and youngsters help with homework and a wholesome lunch as well as perspectives for their job-related future. At the annual DLD-conference we call on all DLD-friends to encourage this commitment. Thanks to their contribution and Burda Digital's expertise a "kids-office" has already been set, where the Hasenbergl-kids learn how to work with computers and how to do a job application.
"Most of our children have never been anywhere but Munich. The van will allow us not only to get more flexible in transportation but also to do short trips," says Johanna Hofmeir. A first trip to the mountains has already been planned. To the kids it is a small trip around the world.
