Hèctor Parra

Born in 1976, Hèctor Parra studied at the Conservatorium of Barcelona, where he was awarded Prizes with Distinction in Composition and Piano. He holds a Master of Composition from the Paris-VIII University, Annual Cursus on Composition from IRCAM, and Post-Cursus from the CNSMD Lyon.

Hèctor has received commissions from the IRCAM-Centre Pompidou on four occasions and the Government of Catalonia, the Berlin Academy of Arts and the Selmer Society (Paris), amongst numerous others. The Ensemble Intercontemporain and the Philarmonic Orchestra of Liège and others, have premiered his work, which has been played at the international festivals of Lucerne, Avignon, and Muziekgebouw (Amsterdam).

He has given lectures at the Queen Sofia National Museum (Spain) and the Takefu Bunka Center (Japan), among others. In 2002, Hèctor won the "INAEM Prize for Musical Composition," in 2005, the Ensemble Intercontemporain awarded him the "Tremplin Prize" and was finalist in the International Gaudeamus Competition. In 2007, he was awarded the Earplay Donald Aird Memorial International Composition Prize of San Francisco (USA).

Currently, he is Professor of Electro-Acoustic Composition at the Conservatorium of Zaragoza (Spain) and composer in research at IRCAM-Centre Pompidou.
