M/M

M/M (Paris) is a partnership between Mathias Augustyniak and Michael Amzalag. Michael studied at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs, Paris and Mathias studied at the Royal College of Arts, London.

Working within the framework and language of design, M/M manifests a diverse practice across the fields of art, music, and fashion..Alex Coles suggests, "To ask whether it is art or graphic design is already to miss a good portion of the point of M/M's work." M/M´s answer: "Each discipline exists in itself, but it is true that 'transversality' - which means artist's fascination for the applied arts: for fashion, design, architecture, graphic design - gave us the chance from the other direction, to intervene in the field of art." M/M have created theatre and film posters; they have published innovative art books and catalogues , they have directed fashion campaigns, pop promos and films, designed speakers and poster-stands, plexiglas lamps and carpets, and even an opera set...

M/M have created artworks for Madonna and Björk and participated in solo exhibitions at Kunstverein, Frankfurt, Germany (2005), Haunch of Venison gallery and Victoria and Albert Museum, London (2006). They have presented collaborative works at each of the past four Venice Biennales, in addition to exhibitions at London's Institute of Contemporary Arts in 2001, and the Palais de Tokyo, Paris in 2005.
