DLD is carbon neutral

Anthropogenic climate change is caused by the emission of greenhouse gases (GHG), and it is one of the mankind's major challenges in the 21st century. Despite a multitude of international climate policy measures - reflected e.g. in the 1997 Kyoto Protocol and the 2003 EU Emissions Trading Directive - GHG emissions are continuously rising on a global scale. Carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions play the most important role in this context.

We guarantee that all greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions generated in the course of the DLD Conference 2007 (especially through travelling of the participants and speakers and the energy consumption at the venue) are offset by the investment in a wind power project in Quindao, China. The emissions reduction is sponsored by 3C.

The basic idea of climate neutrality is simple: GHG emissions have a global damaging impact on the climate. Therefore, it is not relevant where emissions are generated or avoided. This is the reason why emissions at location A, for example through air travel, can be offset through additional climate protection projects at location B, for example by building a wind power plant, but also in the context of voluntary commitments to carbon neutral business activities.

Thank you for the DLD07 and thank you twice for the attention to GHG and the steps taken to offset it. I loved the conference but this made the most sense to me, as I live in a country that ignores Kyoto Protocol.
Thank you again for this tiny but great thought to save our world.
