Brian Cox is a Royal Society University Research Fellow working on the giant 27km Large Hadron Collider at the CERN laboratory in Geneva. He's not always been a physicist, however. At 18 years of age he joined the rock band Dare, recorded two albums for A&M records and toured the world supporting the likes of Jimmy Page and Europe.
After leaving Dare and beginning his University career in 1993 he had a UK number 1 single with the band D;ream, "Things Can Only Get Better", which was used by Tony Blair as his election anthem in 1997. He makes regular appearances on TV and radio in the UK, including BBC's Horizon, Dear Prof. Einstein and In Einstein's Shadow.
He was elected a fellow of the Explorers Club in 2002 and received the prestigious Lord Kelvin Award from the British Association in 2006 for the public promotion of science.
