Arts and the Web
Who makes great interactive art in the internet? The webart site jacksonpollock.org by Miltos Manetas has just been rated as one of the TOP 5o sites in 2006 by the Times Magazine. Try it yourself -and press the C key after you are finished. This interactive artsite is part of a larger webart plattform by Manetas called NEEN. The greek born artist considers NEEN like a brand. In the search for a new form of arts in the virtual space he commissioned the name NEEN from the California based Branding Company Lexicon. Computing is to NEEN what fantasy was to surrealism. "Neen stands for Neenstars: a still-undefined generation of visual artists. Some of them belong to the contemporary art world, others are software creators, web designers, and video game directors or animators". Having moved to New York in 2000, he presented the first NEEN event 2001 at the Gagosian Gallery , New York. Since then NEEN´s community is touring around the world to further expand the borders between arts, reality and virtuality. Today NEEN compiles some of the web´s most striving artworks. NEEN also calls for you to submit your own NEEN piece.
