Senior Vice President, International Operations
Marcom joined Yahoo! in 1993 and leads the company's consumer website operations outside North America and Japan.
Prior to joining Yahoo!, Marcom was President, Americas, of the Financial Times, and responsible for the business operations in the U.S., Canada and Latin America.
During 2000 and 2001, Marcom was Senior Vice President of Worldwide Revenue and Media Strategies for AtomFilms in Seattle. Atom, now part of San Francisco-based AtomShockwave Corp., pioneered use of the Internet as a new distribution medium for narrative film, developing new outlets and revenue sources for its short films and animations.
In 1993, John joined Time Warner's Time Inc. unit as Development Director, overseeing licensing and acquisitions in the region, and later became Publisher of Time's Asian edition.
He became President of Hong Kong-based Time Inc. Asia in 1998, taking on additional responsibility for the company's other Asian-based magazines. Under his leadership, Time Inc. launched new editions of Time and Fortune in Taiwan and main land China. In 1999 Marcom became President of Time Inc. International, managing Time Warner's magazine businesses in Australia, Latin America, Europe and Asia.
He began his career as a journalist, for more than a decade covering media and technology subjects for the Wall Street Journal in Tokyo, New York, and London, and was Forbes magazine's European Bureau Chief.
He is a graduate of Princeton University, summa cum laude in economics; received an MBA from INSEAD, the European Institute of Business Administration in Fontainebleau, France, and is a former Henry Luce Foundation Scholar, spending a year in Seoul on that program.
